Holiday Stuff

Here's a nice video of Jack becoming good friends
with everyone's friend: Elmo.

Jack's vocabulary has grown by leaps and bounds
over the last 2 weeks.

And here's a nice pic of Leslie at Christmas.

More to come soon...

Jack looks on in anticipation of Mom bringing the cookie dough over to him.

Sharing a nice hug with Auntie Em.

Terrorizing-I mean 'petting' Sammie the cat.

Banging out a tune with cousin Caleb.

Stretching out on the couch with Grandpa.

Christmas Stuff..

These are some miscellaneous pics from the last few weeks.
More to come soon...

Here in his native element, we see the bear cub frolicking in the autumn leaves.

Mom and Jack playing in the leaves.

Jack is helping me put up the Christmas tree.

Mom trying to get Jack to 'smell' the tree.

Jack is well trained in some areas....

Maybe he'll do this when he's older too...and maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt, but I'll hope for one and not the other!

So Leslie is shopping in Gatlinburg...

with her Mom and two sisters, and she sends me this picture on my phone with the comment, "Delirium has set in!"

I love it! She can make anything look good!

The Turner Family Roots

My Dad's family from way back in the day... circa 1956ish.
He is the 4th from the right, with most but not all of his siblings!
He was one of thirteen.

Odds and Ends...

Thank God it's finally sweater vest weather!
Unseen in the picture, Dad also is sporting a sweater vest
for church on Sunday.
We were like a little family of sweater vest triplets.

As you can see, Jack is particularly excited to be wearing his sweater vest.

The routine of parents and toddlers everywhere.
Take your medicine boy!

Fun high jinks are usually the order of the day at our house!
This was last Saturday morning with Mom and Jack playing by the doggie door.

Men At Work

So, I planted some new bushes in front of our porch,
and Jack was right there with me the whole time,
helping Dad get 'em in the ground. Leslie snapped these great pics
from back around Halloween.

Disgusting. And funny.

If you've never seen our hallway bathroom, allow me to describe it to you now: The bathtub is an old-style white tub; it is deep and keeps water warm for a long time. We have a nice blue rug lying next to this tub, and from time to time while Jack plays in the bath, I lie down on the rug to rest my weary bones. Tonight, Jack pooped in the tub whilst I was in such a position, and then he threw it on me. Leslie commented that I was, "Paralyzed like no other."

The other day, when I was done with the laundry, and all my clothes were hanging in the closet, Leslie called me a "hanger snob." She made this comment because I (thanks to basic training in the USAF) hang all my shirts facing the same direction on black plastic hangers, grouping shirts by type and then by color. Also, my pants are all on pant hangers, and they too all face the same way. This is all perfectly normal.

Carving the Great Pumpkin

Here we are carving the pumpkin on Saturday. Thanks to Grammie and Grandpa for documenting the whole episode!

Tuckered out at "school"

Jack runs his little self all over the place at daycare,
and this is the scene in the early afternoon:

All the kids have a mat, and the teachers lay them down,
cut the lights and pat their bottoms until they're out.
Doesn't this picture make you want to just lay down and take a nap?

I know I'd go to sleep quick if someone would
turn out the lights and pat my bottom!

Do you know what a good neighbor is?

A good neighbor is one who will stop what they're doing and come over and get down on their hands and knees in your bathroom
with a power tool to cut the extra-long toilet bolts
you installed (because you're a ninny), so that
you won't have to take your new toilet apart for the fifth time,
and maybe - just maybe those little bolt caps will fit.
Thanks neighbor!

Married Love

Imagine my surprise when I went to open a brand-new jar
of my favorite peanut butter the other day...
(if you remember, this has not been on the shelves of
our local grocers for a while because of that contamination
stuff at the production plant in Georgia several months ago)

And instead of seeing the sweet rhapsody
of untouched honey-roasted goodness waiting for me, I saw this!

Argggh!!!!!

Then Leslie said, "I love you baby" with a
devious little laugh and that was that.
My sandwich was still just as good.

Jack likes to eat...

He's not fat, but it's definitely his one true passion right now.
I submit the following as evidence:

He likes to eat Barbecue at Sticky Fingers,

he likes to eat cole slaw at his Pa's birthday party,

he likes to eat sitting in a chair at daycare,

he likes to eat mashed potatoes with a spoon at Applebees,

he likes to eat mashed potatoes with his hands at Applebees,

he likes to eat in the highchair at Wednesday night church dinner,

and he likes to eat in his high chair at home!

I know you'll think this is corny but... I've said a mouthful!

Merry-Go-Round

When's the last time you took a ride on a Merry-Go-Round? If you haven't lately you should!

A typical night at the Turners

Here you see June playing peek-a-boo with Beaver, while Ward films the action...

Jack is trying to drive us insane.

Leslie tells me that Albert Einstein says that insanity is when you do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. So, either Jack is channeling Albert Einstein or he's trying to make me insane with this toy.

The First "Real" Haircut

If you search for the word, "haircut" in our blog in the top left corner, you'll come upon a picture of me and Jack at the barbershop for a trim around the ears and the back hairline a couple of months ago. Jack went with his Mom to the salon for an all over cut last Saturday, and he had a good time! Thanks again to Grammie who was on-hand to whisk the boy away so that he wouldn't get too bored watching Mom get a trim. If you see Leslie or me around, ask about the haircut story, it's a good one.

WALKING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well world, Jack has finally taken more than
two steps without doing a face-plant,
and here's the video evidence:

With any really cool movie,
there are always out-takes that
are pretty funny and here is one of ours...

In this video, you can hear the commentary from the
adults, the yelling from Jack, and the thump when
he hits the floor!

Jack is so funny!

Tonight as I was getting Jack ready for his bath,
I laid him down on the changing table to take his clothes off.
When I laid him down, I noticed he had a big booger in his nose.
Well, being the good Daddy that I am, I picked it for him.
Then I held it up in front of his face so he could see it while I said,
"That's grody Jack!"
and you know what he did?

He opened his mouth as if I were going to feed it to him!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, he's close to walking, but he's still content to cruise and crawl.

Jack's First Birthday Party...the pictures say it all

It is hard to believe our little guy is a year old, but we celebrated in style on Saturday the 26th at Grammy and Grandpa's. It was a great party!
Everyone swam and had a good time in the pool before burgers, cake, and ice cream.

It didn't take long for Jack to dive into his cake.

Dad thought it would be funny to wear Jack's birthday hat...notice the cool t-shirt that he got for Father's Day...

It was a great day and one we will cherish forever. Enjoy the videos we compiled below of Jack's first year. We intended to show these at his party, but we had technical difficulties, so we thought we would share them this way.

Rest at ease with only the Bear Necessities!

A friend told us about this idea and so we've diligently taken
photos of Jack with the same teddy bear every month. It allows
you to see how he's grown over his first year.
Enjoy-we have!

Well folks, here it is...Jack Turner, Year One
